SHISHU

Holistic Health for Baby & Family

SHISHU means baby in Sanskrit. Founded by Sophie Hawkins, SHISHU is a Bristol-based organisation bringing the ancient practice of Ayurvedic baby massage into modern family life.

Sophie is a trained Ayurvedic Baby Massage Coach and is on a mission to help 100 Bristol families discover the benefits of baby massage. Making the practice a simple, loving part of their everyday routine.

Through intimate, immersive workshops held in community spaces across Bristol, SHISHU gives parents everything they need to confidently begin a daily massage ritual during the first 6 weeks at home, or from 7 weeks of age in one of our workshops. SHISHU hopes this practice will develop into a family culture from babies through the toddler years and up to age 7. SHISHU coaches you in the massage sequence and Ayurvedic principles, along with the best oils to use, the bathing technique and the practical knowledge needed to continue at home.

At the heart of SHISHU is the belief that when a mother is supported, the whole family benefits. Early parenthood can be overwhelming, and caring for a baby begins with caring for the person caring for them. Our approach therefore looks beyond the baby alone, creating space for mothers / primary care givers to feel nurtured, confident and connected, while helping their partners and other family members to develop a loving relationship with the baby too.

SHISHU combines Ayurvedic wisdom, nurturing touch and practical parent education to create a holistic approach to wellbeing for babies and families.

We believe that baby massage is crucial to the development of the child and the relationships within the family. It's time everyday without a screen on to distract, 15 minutes of pure connection, presence and calm that can become a treasured family routine.
