SINGING MAMAS

Singing mamas is a weekly space for women of all stages to come together and sing simple but powerful songs together in harmony. At its heart are women in the early years of motherhood but all women are welcome to help create that space. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Come and join our village!

Why singing? 

Singing has an incredible power to regulate and calm the nervous system. When we sing our body releases both calming and feel good hormones. It can soothe anxiety and improve mood. All voices are welcome. Do not be worried about not singing in tune or the way your voice sounds. That does not matter here. Together the voices will blend to a beautiful sound. Your body (and your baby if you have one) will love it! 

What happens at a group? 

We will sit together in a circle and start with some simple breathing and grounding exercises. Then we will make some simple sounds to warm up the voice before moving onto our first songs. Songs are taught by ear in call and response. I sing a line and you sing it back to me as we gradually build the song. Once learnt we will sing a song several times to allow it to work its magic! We will sing a few songs each session ranging from simple melodic mantras, lullabies and seasonal folk songs to snippets of contemporary pop music. You are very welcome to make song suggestions!

After an hour of singing we will have half an hour of tea and cake with some space for connection or quiet reflection depending on what you need at the time.
