Description
I’m Clare, an experienced SEN carer with over 30 years’ experience supporting children with additional needs. Throughout my career, I have worked in an ELP attached to a school, as well as supporting children and families as a nanny.
My passion has always been helping children with additional needs feel safe, understood, included and able to thrive, while also recognising the importance of supporting the parents and carers around them.
This passion led me to launch Clare’s SENsory Explorers, creating a small, welcoming and supportive space for children aged 12 months to 5 years to play, learn and grow at their own pace.
I believe there is a real need for smaller, more nurturing environments where children can receive the attention and support they need, while parents and carers have the opportunity to connect with others who understand their experiences.
Why sensory play matters:
• Support communication – giving children opportunities to express needs and feelings, particularly when verbal communication is difficult.
• Develop motor skills – through activities such as playdough, water play, threading and exploring different textures.
• Support attention and concentration – appropriate sensory experiences can help some children feel calmer and more ready to engage.
• Encourage emotional regulation – movement, music and calming sensory experiences can support children who may feel overwhelmed.
• Build sensory awareness – exploring sounds, textures, smells, sights and movement helps children experience and make sense of their surroundings.
• Encourage independence – sensory and everyday activities can help children develop confidence and practical skills.
• Make learning more accessible – sensory experiences provide alternative ways for children to explore concepts and participate in learning.
